DRESS CODE

Dancewear & Shoes

  • Ballet tights are available for purchase in the lobby.

  • Jazz and ballet shoes are behind the reception desk and available for sizing only (instructions posted nearby).

  • To order jazz and ballet shoes notate the brand and size that best fits from the try ons in the lobby, then purchase through Amazon

Dress Code Notes

  • Bra tops must be covered with a shirt (not worn alone).

  • Smart watches and phones must be left in the lobby.

Individual Class Dress Codes as Follows:

Ballet Technique Classes 

Tights: Pink tights for rehearsals (any brand). For pictures and recital, dancers must wear pink Weissman’s tights (available in the lobby).

  • Leotard: Solid black leotard only (no attached shorts).

  • Shoes: Pink split-sole ballet shoes from Discount Dance or a reputable dance store (no Walmart/Target shoes).

  • Hair: Neatly pulled back in a bun (no ponytails).

  • Jewelry: Not permitted.

  • Exceptions:

    • Dancers in the beginning levels may wear a skirt—attached styles work best for younger dancers.

    • Color leotards may be worn during the last week of the month.

    • Color leotards also permitted at Nutcracker rehearsals.

  • Pointe Classes: Add a short chiffon ballet skirt.

  • Boys: Black ballet shoes, black tights, form-fitting shirt. (Shorts may be worn over tights.)

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) Classes

  • Clothing: Spandex or other form-fitting attire, or ballet leotard with tights (tights can be rolled up).

  • Shoes: Bare feet.

  • Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face and neck.

    • Low ponytail or braids are recommended, as much of the work is done lying on the back.

    • Buns or high ponytails may be uncomfortable.

Jazz, Leaps & Turns, Comp Tech, Flexibility, Drill Prep

  • Tops: Bra tops must be covered with a shirt.

  • Clothing: Spandex or other form-fitting top with jazz shorts or spandex-type leggings.

  • Shoes:

    • Jazz classes and Drill Prep: Tan split-sole jazz shoes required

    • Competition Technique: Jazz shoes or lyrical shoes (turners)

    • Leaps & Turns / Flexibility: Can wear lyrical shoes (turners) or jazz shoes

  • Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face and neck.

  • Accessories: No jewelry or long/sharp fingernails.

Dance Competition Teams

  • Clothing: Form-fitting top and shorts or leggings in black or gray.

  • Hair: Pulled up and away from the face in a ponytail or bun.

  • Shoes: Use the shoes required for performance, which may vary by team.

  • Accessories: No jewelry or long/sharp fingernail

2–3 Year Old & Kindergarten Combo Classes (Ballet and Jazz)

  • Leotard: Any style.

  • Tights: Pink tights.

  • Shoes: Pink ballet shoes (split-sole recommended; no Walmart/Target shoes).

  • Accessories: Dancers may wear a tutu or skirt—attached styles work best for younger dancers.

  • Special Note: On the last lesson of each month, dancers have a “free” day and may wear any dance attire they choose.

Preschool Combo Classes (Ballet and Tap)

  • Leotard: Any style.

  • Tights: Pink tights.

  • Shoes:

    • Pink ballet shoes (split-sole recommended; no Walmart/Target shoes).

    • Black tap shoes.

  • Accessories: Dancers may wear a tutu or skirt—attached styles work best for younger dancers.

  • Special Note: On the last lesson of each month, dancers have a “free” day and may wear any dance attire they choose.

First Grade Combo Class

  • Clothing: Ballet leotards; shorts and form-fitting tanks or shirts are also acceptable.

  • Shoes:

    • Jazz portion: Tan jazz shoes.

    • Ballet portion: Pink ballet shoes (split-sole recommended; no Walmart/Target shoes).

  • Hair: Pulled up and away from the face in a ponytail or bun

Teen Combo Class

  • Clothing: Any clothes that are comfortable for moving in.

  • Shoes: Tan jazz shoes(jazz), Split sole pink ballet shoes (ballet), Tennis shoes (hip hop)

  • Hair: Pulled up and away from the face

Tumbling Classes

  • Clothing:

    • Leotard with shorts and/or leggings OR tight-fitting shorts and tank top with sports bra.

    • Shirt must fit snugly to prevent falling over the head when upside down.

    • ABSOLUTELY NO JEAN SHORTS OR SHORT WITH BELT LOOPS

  • Shoes: Bare feet.

  • Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face and neck. Avoid high ponytails or accessories that interfere with head/hand support.

  • Accessories: No jewelry or long/sharp fingernails

Hip Hop Classes

  • Clothing: Baggy clothes, sweats, or hip hop-style pants are encouraged. Oversized tank tops and t-shirts are also acceptable.

  • Shoes: Non-marking tennis shoes are required. Shoes with white soles are not allowed.

Ballroom Classes

Girls:

  • Clothing: Tight-fitting dance top with jazz capris or jazz pants to show alignment (no baggy clothing). A dance skirt with shorts or leggings underneath is also acceptable.

  • Shoes:

    • Older/experienced dancers: Tan Latin dance shoes with 2.5” heel.

    • Younger/beginning dancers (12 & under): Shorter Cuban heel (1.5”) with heel guards.

  • Hair: Pulled up and out of the face.

  • Accessories: No jewelry.

Boys:

  • Clothing: Workout-type clothing (Under Armour, basketball shorts, etc.).

  • Shoes: Black Latin dance shoes.

Tap Classes

Girls:

  • Clothing: Same as jazz class attire; no baggy clothing.

  • Shoes: Tan character tap shoes with 1.5” heel.

  • Hair: Pulled up and out of the face.

  • Accessories: No jewelry.

Boys:

  • Clothing: Workout-type clothing (Under Armour, basketball shorts, etc.).

  • Shoes: Black tap shoes.
